Obihai OBI200 Setup
The Obihai OBI200 is a popular ATA with an easy-to-use web interface. Follow these steps to connect it to faxsimile.
What You'll Need
- Obihai OBI200 (or OBI202 for two phone ports)
- Ethernet cable (usually included)
- Phone cable (RJ11, usually included with your fax machine)
- Your fax machine
- A computer on the same network
Step 1: Connect the Hardware
- Plug the ethernet cable from your router into the Internet port on the OBI200
- Connect your fax machine's phone cable to the Phone port on the OBI200
- Plug in the power adapter
- Wait for all LEDs to stabilize (about 60 seconds)
Step 2: Find the Device's IP Address
You need to access the OBI200's web interface. First, find its IP address.
- Pick up your fax machine's handset (or any phone connected to the OBI200)
- Press *** (three stars)
- Press 1 for device status
- The device will read out its IP address (e.g., "192.168.1.110")
- Write this down - you'll need it for the next step
Step 3: Access the Web Interface
- On your computer, open a web browser
- Type the IP address from Step 2 into the address bar (e.g.,
http://192.168.1.110) - You'll see the OBi Device Configuration page
- No login is required by default
Note: If prompted for login, try username: admin, password: admin
Step 4: Configure the SIP Service
- Click Voice Services in the left menu
- Click SP1 Service (Service Provider 1)
- Find the SIP section and fill in:
ProxyServer
sip.faxsimile.net

- Set X_ServProvProfile to A
Step 5: Optimize for Fax
These settings help fax transmissions work reliably.
- In the left menu, go to Physical Interfaces → Phone1 Port
- Find and adjust these settings:

Also in the Voice Services → SP1 Service section:

Step 6: Save and Reboot
- Click Submit at the bottom of the page
- Go to System Management in the left menu
- Click Reboot
- Wait about 90 seconds for the device to restart
- The Service LED should turn solid green when registered
You're Connected!
If the Service LED is solid green, your fax machine is ready to receive faxes. Make sure your fax machine is turned on and set to auto-answer.
Troubleshooting
- Service LED is blinking or off
- Registration failed. Double-check your SIP credentials are entered exactly as shown. Make sure X_ServProvProfile is set to "A".
- Faxes fail partway through
- Try setting FAXCodec to "G711u" instead of "T38". Some fax machines work better without T.38.
- Can't access web interface
- Make sure your computer is on the same network as the OBI200. Try
http://obi.localas an alternative. - Forgot the password
- Factory reset: Press and hold the reset button for 20 seconds. All settings will be reset to defaults.
- "Service Provider X" vs SP1
- The OBI200 can connect to multiple services. We use SP1 (Service Provider 1) for faxsimile. Ignore the other slots.
